Pour mémoire la durée de vie des déchets nucléaires se décompose comme suit :

- Iode 131  : 8 jours

- Iode 125  : 60 jours

- Radium 226 : 1600 ans

- Carbone 14  : 5730 ans

- Plutonium 239  : 24 000 ans

- Potassium 40  : 1,3 milliard d’années

- Uranium 238  : 4,5 milliards d’années
